Meristem finds a HOME!
After 9 years of cultivating herbs in gardens that were created on lands owned by welcoming friends, in the spring of 2017 we were so blessed to be able to purchase a small homestead with a bit of land and began cultivating 2 acres of woodland and meadow into our own organically grown herbs in beautiful Blue Hill. There, we are currently growing dozens of varieties of herbs to create tinctures, tea formulas, oils for skin care products and our special preparation of
Sweet Elderberry Syrup!
We want to send out a great big heartfelt THANK YOU to Lake Larsson, Tim Semler and Lydia Moffet at Tinder Hearth Bakery in Brooksville for generously sharing their gardens with Meristem Herbs for all those years.
We also thank Deborah Evans at Bagaduce Farm and Annie Sheble at Spar Ridge for welcoming the herbs that went into lots of medicine.
Meristem Herb Co. Services Offered::
We are currently crafting a variety of Herbal Teas, Sweet Elderberry Syrup, Spicy Fire Cider, Infused Herbal Honeys, Lavender Body Creme, and Healing Skin Salves. The most up to date listing of products available for sale can be seen here.

Rachel has been a student of herbalism since 2004, when she discovered that the weeds growing on her doorstep were used to heal cuts. Rachel met herbalism teacher, Chris Marano of Clearpath Herbals, in 2007 and continued to listen to and learn from him for the next 5 years. In 2008 she built a mandala healing medicine garden, and used that as a teaching tool about how herbs interact within the human body. Rachel studied with Fredda Paul, Medicine Elder of the Passamaquoddy Nation in Maine from 2008-2011. In 2012, while working at Farmacy Herbs and Community Health Center with herbalist Mary Blue, Rachel managed a large urban garden space and grew, harvested, processed, marketed and taught about a plethora of medicinal herbs in many forms. She has completed the Foundations of Western Herbalism course at Clearpath School of Herbalism, Herbal Training and Education course and advanced Herbalism Intensive at Farmacy Herbs. Additional teachers include Dr Jody Noe', Rosemary Gladstar, Kate Gilday, Dr Tieraona Low Dog, Deb Soule, Margi Flint, Larken Bunce, Susun Weed and David Hoffman. With her training in Western Herbalism, Rachel focuses on using herbal actions to bring balance to health. She most enjoys growing medicinal herbs and sharing the knowledge gleaned by using herbs in her own family and practices. More recently, Rachel has been involved with Aviva Romm's program, "Herbal Medicine for Women" and follows Aviva's podcast "Natural MD Radio" which is focused largely on social justice issues in women's health in the U.S., self-care and health awareness for women, and various topics of interest for mothers and children.
Rachel has been building gardens since 1999, when she pulled up a section of grass in her mother's backyard to plant carrot seeds. Since then she has been making gardens anywhere she goes, from Massachusetts, to California, to Rhode Island and Maine. While attending College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine, Rachel was introduced to Organic Farming, and studied at Beech Hill Farm about growing vegetables. In 2008 she worked on Sweet Pea Flower Farm, where she learned a great deal about effective marketing, greenhouse maintenance, starting seedlings and beautiful cut-flowers. She then went on to work as a volunteer at Peoples Grocery in Oakland, CA. Since 2009, she has worked as a farm hand on Four Season Farm, under the supervision of Eliot Coleman and Barbara Damarosch. Rachel became a Journeyperson with Maine Organic Farmers and Gardener's Association (MOFGA) in 2011. During her time as a Journeyperson apprentice, she was mentored by local seed savers and native plant specialists. In 2012, Rachel created and successfully managed a small vegetable and herb CSA at The Good Earth Organic Farm and Garden Center. Additionally, Rachel has been a professional landscaper since 2005. She specializes in functional food and medicine gardens and currently offers consultation, design, installation and maintenance services, on the Blue Hill Peninsula, Maine.
